My Pulmonologist has me keep a prescription of antibiotics on hand just for this type of problem. . I also have Prednisone, and Mucinex on hand. If I only cough yellow once or twice, I wait to see what happens. Should it get thicker, darker or turn green, I take an antibiotic and call my doctor immrdiately for further instructions. He tries to keep me from going to the ER or even to his office where there are "sick people" that could really make me sicker. Talk to your doctor and develop a "what if" plan.

Hi Rita ann Sorry to hear you are concerned about the yellow mucus you are coughing up, this does not mean you have a lung infection, but see what happens with in the next few days, if it turns to green then to brown then you have an infection hope this is of use to you keep well Carol x

Coping with COPD calls for organization and planning. Once you have your home, meds and equipment organized, you can cope so much better. I have a three shelf rolling cart that holds everything I need including my trilogy machine and nebulizer. It moves with me from room to room so I always have what I need near me. I love it!!

Good morning
It's a sign that something isn't right
I would suggest you call your dr
And get some antibiotics
Before things get worse
Slow and steady we go
Never alone

Well i agree about the need to be pro active and home treat your symptoms...I usually on any obvious Colour Change with extra SOB, do the 40mg Pred for 5 days and 2x2 Doxy Antibiotic...Only if after 3 days if breathing gets worse SPECIALLY if accompanied by Fever, forget the Doctor and go direct to Hospital.

I only have Emphysema at 18% Capacity with a small Asthma Component, so i rarely cough....For me to notice Mucous Changes is difficult as i need to use an Acapella Device and Huff Cough......If i do bring up Mucous Voluntarily, it usually is one goooey, sticky blob....

and yes..I function pretty well all things considered and can often put someone with 50% capacity to shame....Not on Oxygen either as i have a Gas Exchange Issue and my Sats rarely dip under 96%..so that is one blessing....xxxxxx
