Eliza, Hi I can help a little bit , COPD is a umbrella name that covers,Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) is a slowly progressive obstruction of airflow into or out of the lungs. Bronchitis is inflammation of the bronchial tubes .Emphysema is a destructive disease of the lung in which the alveoli (small sacs) that promote oxygen exchange between the air and the bloodstream are destroyed. I have this and we can breathe in but can't breathe out which makes us sob also very hard on the heart. Asthma: The airways are persistently inflamed, and may occasionally spasm, causing wheezing and shortness of breath. What causes this--smoking is the #1 , infections, colds , flu, is the #2 . dust, pollution, chemicals, coal, wood burning . As to way you were not told is a problem with Doctors unless you ask you will not find out . Mine did the same thing .I had to read and study to see what I needed to do. I hope this help a little. GOD bless and breathe good air,

Hi, eating can be a problem especially if you are having a bad breathing day .What I do then is make drinks, like smoothies with all fruit or veges. Soups are good too! You need to keep your food intake going and make it a healthy one, will all help in the long run. Do a google search and type in COPD it will bring up pictures for you to view ,of the chest, lungs and throat etc. Chose a medical site , for more accurate pictures.
