This picture is what "they" say on the effects of quitting but is it true ? Is it what you experienced ? May we know what benefits you've get ?

I agree @A MyCOPDTeam Member with your statement about wishing that cigarettes were never made! I think the person who came up with that bright idea should sit in a smoke filled room and be forced to smoke one cig after another! Quitting was hard for me also, but the cutting down method worked for me. I did experience a lot of the things shown in the chart @A MyCOPDTeam Member posted. I never had a cough, but my circumstances are a little different than most peoples. Since I breathe through my neck (no, I didn't have to smoke through my neck) I don't have the muscles left to clear my throat so I have a machine that clears my throat for me. I don't know if I would have had the cough or not when I quit, but it was one thing I didn't have to deal with. Chris

Will it's been about 15 years since I quit smoking but I never kept track of how I felt at any stage except I had freedom from something that was killing me and that first year was hard as it took me awhile to realize that when I was a smoker my lungs got used to me deep breathing but when I quit smoking my breathing became shallow but once I realized that as a smoker everytime I smoked I took a deep breathe of my cigarette but once I figured it out I started I guess you would call it deep breathing exercises and I felt much better but I never coughed up any black substance like I heard people do . ....and now if something stressful happens in my life I never even think about reaching for a cigarette! I just pray for people who I know are still smoking to quit ,good luck! :) I am grateful because I would be dead if I didn't quit smoking so I added years to my life!!!

It's been almost a year since I quit smoking 🚬, one of the benefits from that is, my appetite has increased, a lot of days I keep my hands busy, toothpick in mouth, anything with in reason to keep me from picking up a cigarette. I was an the patch for about 3 months after that period it was just mind over matter. I also told myself if I smoke I'm putting my life as it is at risk, that's my IT factor and it's working pretty good for me.😄
