For Women Only…Yeast Infections

A MyCOPDTeam Member asked a question 💭
Mississippi State, MS

I take Symbicort twice daily and since I’ve started it I have been having yeast under my breasts and vaginal infections every month. I wasn’t having them before I started this medicine. I was wondering if anyone else was dealing with this or have a remedy for it. Monistat clears it up but it comes right back. I’m not diabetic and use a spacer on my inhalers. I’m also curious as to why it only happens on my lady parts. Waiting on test results from doc but kinda want to ask if I can switch… read more

I'm not on symbicort, but I also have that problem. I use two different medications for my nebulizer. I use goldbond or baby powder everyday it seems to help some.

Sorry, I am not a Lady either but have experienced similar yeast infections as mouth thrush. This is most common for us taking Inhaled Corto-steroids. IT is mentioned in just about every pamphlet for the ICS meds. Problems are mostly avoided by rinsing after each treatment, but sometimes the Candida yeast can gain an advantage when our immunity is compromised.
In babies, it would be diaper rash. In some athletes, it could be a foot infection. The Candida is very common in hospitals and is quickly becoming resistant to proven medications. Infections can spread through the bloodstream rapidly. Your Doc should be able to culture a sample and make adjustments to your meds routine to keep the possibility of reinfection at bay. Have a read here:

Some research points to gastro imbalances as a cause of repeat battles. Yogurt has proven effective in my case when the the tongue starts to look a little fuzzy.
Stay safe and Take care.

I am not a lady, but i too take Symbicort. Symbicort contains a steroid so it is very important to rinse your mouth thouroughly after using as it can cause thrush which is a different type of yeast infection. I don't know if this helps or not,but i thought you could use some info. I too use a spacer

@A MyCOPDTeam Member I don’t understand either why it kept happening unless I wasn’t drinking enough water..but how much can one drink?…I got tired of waiting on my dr for Diflucan so I went and got boric acid suppositories and Monistat boric acid wash and have not been having any symptoms. I also add Braggs apple cider vinegar to my drinking water. I too have the symptoms you’ve mentioned, add on rib pain/soreness from coughing. I’m learning to take it slow.. do a little bit and then sit and rest a bit to help with my breathing and use my rescue inhaler as needed. Annoying yes..but I have to learn to adapt to it. The Gold Bond works to keep you dry under your breasts. I used to buy the cream they came out with but I can’t find it no more and I don’t use powder because of my asthma, I have been using Monistat chafe relief gel or a generic brand and it works wonders.
