I had double pnumonia and was in ICU. While there the infection caused my body to become septic. And then septic shock. I was on a ventilator and in a drug induced coma for over a month. My family was planning my funeral because the doctor told them that I only had a 20 percent chance of survival. But I somehow made it through. I had to practicly learn to walk again. That was January and February of 2019. I'm better but my lungs are pretty much destroyed. The pnumonia is enough to kill you by itself. But the sepsis shut down nearly every organ in my body. Almost 2yrs later and I'm still in pain. Doctors said it was a miracle I lived. Most people wouldn't have. Thank the doctor's and especially thank God 🙏

July 2019 I was put in the hospital because I had trouble breathing despite med oxygen...apparently too much co2 and oxygen couldn't get in the lung was there three days came home night right after couldn't breathe back in hospital I was released with pneumonia and sepsis I was sooooooooo sick I'm fine since and it been over a year...but what an experience I got last rites and for a short while saw the other side. Whew, never will I forget it. The Doctors told my family 50/50 chance.

I was and it made me feel like a leper. I had to be in a room by myself. It used to be quite easy to pick up in the hospital but they are much stricter about cleanliness now. Hubby also picked it up due to infection while in the hospital.

Hi Jean: When I was in the hospital they told me I had pnemonia. They never mentioned sepsis. The only reason I know is because it was stated on my discharge papers. I was in the hospital for 9 days and then transferred to a rehab hospital for a week after that, The worst 16 days of my life,

I never have, but it does happen, and unfortunately, it's not uncommon. Treating the patient is the most important thing, of course, but after that, what's important is that there be an investigation into how it occurred, if possible, and if specific problems were identified, how will these be avoided in the future. Usually when something like this happens it's because some procedure wasn't followed completely or a step was missed or something wasn't done thoroughly. Staff should be re=trained, procedures re-written to be clear and concise, etc.
