COPD, prednisone and congestive heart failure can all cause fluid retention, and there are probably a bunch of other things as well. I suggest you talk with your doc and get some diuretics to take. Having it be worse in the morning than at night is very typical. They will often ask you to weigh yourself at night and then again in the morning. Anything more than a two pound increase is cause to call the doc.

Am on diuretics twice daily and still have swollen feet and legs due to the prednisone. Its a daily fight and its not heart related. Tests ruled that out. Need it but hate the side effects. Be glad when I can finally taper completely off.

Hi DonnaZ, Thanks for the suggestion Azo. I am going to try it. I am not on water pills yet. I am going to see the doctor next week and I wanted to know, just in case he wants me to take them.

Hi Marye...I also urinate often, it was often every hour sometimes every 45 minutes. I started using Azo, which is an over the counter medication that can be found in WalMart or on Amazon. It does help so now I can go longer, not like when we were younger but it helps. The doctor told me that if I went on a prescribed medication for bladder control, it would also constipate me. I didn't want that so I stay with Azo. Why do you take water pills? They are suppose to rid the body of fluids. Yes, age has something to do with our lack of good bladder control, I am 73.

Thanks for the info. I have a doctor's appointment on Weds. When you take the water pills, do you urinate more often? Right now I urinate quite often. I would hope that wouldn't increase if I take water pills! I have to know where the bathrooms are where ever I go. Maybe age has something to do with the frequency . I'm 72.
