A nitrogen washout test is not scary your pulmonolagist will order it. Simply it is like pft except they give you pure oxygen. What is simply they lower your nitrogen level which is normally 78 percent because of our atmosphere so it measure amount of nitrogen you take in and expel mostly to measure how take in and expel and helps to measure dead space in lung capacity nothing to fear so breathe easy. Hi Sharona: Had the test twice. You sit in a chamber (clear plexiglass so you don't feel claustrophobic). Several breathing exercises they ask you to do, and this measures your lung capacity.
