Trelegy Vs. Spiriva And Symbicort

A MyCOPDTeam Member asked a question ๐Ÿ’ญ
Mint Hill, NC

I am currently taking Spiriva and Symbicort daily. The costs have skyrocketed. I can save $100 if I switch to Trelegy. Question is, will it be as effective? I'm a little worried to change over so any opinions would be welcomed. My doctor is willing to let me try. Thanks.

I was on Symbicort and Spiriva for 4 years since 1st being diagnosed with COPD/EMPHYSEMA I've now been using Trelegy for 8 months and it was the BEST decision I made, it has made a huge difference in my breathing allowing me to stay off of Prednisone completely I've not had an exacerbation since starting the trelegy, Most importantly I can Talk, Walk and Laugh without becoming short of breath and that in itself is Amazing!!!
Good Luck ๐Ÿ™‚

I would get my Doctor to give me 1-3 months of free samples then decide after that. When I started Trelegy got rid of 3 other products and used some of the 3 times a day. Trelegy took right over and I only had to take once a day. Am still taking Trelegy but will be setting it aside at the end of the month to try a 2-3 month trial of Breztri, which is similar to Trelegy

Iโ€™ve been on Trelegy for a bit and Iโ€™ve had decent luck with it. I got a savings card on their website and pay $5 a month for it.

Whether Trelegy will work for you is really something you can only decide once you've tried it. I use it, and it's the first time that a LAMA has done anything besides make my breathing worse, so I'm a firm believer. I also realize that how we respond to various molecules in the meds we take can be very individual. Back in 2008 when everyone was calling Spiriva the miracle drug form COPD, I tried it and it actually made my breathing worse. I tried it again a couple of years later, and had the same response. Tried Dulera, which was a new LAMA and that didn't work either, so I figured none of the LAMAs would work. Clearly I was wrong, as Trelegy has a LAMA; just one I hadn't tried.
