Okay, How Many Minutes Does Your Nebulizer Run When Using A Standard 3ml Plastic Vial Of Whatever Liquid Is Prescribed For You?

A MyCOPDTeam Member asked a question πŸ’
Manteca, CA

I'm asking because I hate doing mine anymore because it takes so long using the portable I use, and I am wondering if it's because we have hard water here and standard cleaning is allowing minerals to collect and partially clog the mesh. Not enough to prevent it working but enough for it to take 10 to 15 minutes to use a 3ml vial. I just bought a new portable and that one was done in less than 5 minutes. I realize you have to be really bored to time yours, but I'm wondering if I should switch to… read more

I use a nebulizer for four different medications, each one is 10-15 minutes. I can honestly say that I that at one point I hated using it because of the length of time it took. Now I am so thankful for it, I can actually get up and walk around. πŸ˜€

I have 2 plug in nebulizers. Both are made by Drive. One is a little smaller for portability reasons and it takes about 20 minutes to do my 3 ml treatment. The other takes about 15 minutes to do my 3 ml treatment. Both are about 8 years old.

Hi AliceRose, I use a home unit most of the time and it takes just about 10 minuets to do a treatment. I use a potable one sometimes when I am out of the house, it also takes about 10 minuets. I've been using a nebulizer for about 6 years, now 4x a day.
I would agree with your thoughts on the calcium build up. As with my home unit I still replace the whole mouth piece and bowl every 2 years. The portable uses the mesh and vibration to atomize the medication so the calcium build up will affect its efficiency. I recommend you use a little distilled water to clean out the portable one to get longer life out of them. [I wonder if we could just replace the top pot part on this portable ones.]
I use the time to do deep breathing exercises. It gives me something else to concentrate on instead of the clock. Hope that helps you some.
