Thank you for your suggestions. I fully intend to insist on getting a specialist perspective when I see my gp. Nothing he has done so far has helped very much. Have a great weekend

Hi, @A MyCOPDTeam Member:

I can see you’re in Canada. So, if your doctor isn’t being forthcoming, is he a GP or is he a respiratory specialist like a Pulmonologist?

I ask because some of our symptoms stump the specialized docs, and you don’t want to be starting behind the 8-ball by having your care needs addressed by an inexperienced doc / the wrong doc.

In general, if you have unknown chest pain and you’re not getting necessary test referrals showing bone deformities or other cardiac issues, I’d start being a pest and asking for a thoracic or pulmonary specialist to look at you.

In my case, my bones are deformed as part of a many times repaired pectus excavatum chest, and keloids from the surgery which kept trying to return my chest to it’s pre-surgery chest / rib cage deformity. I also have arthritis in my spine, and lingering pain from a car accident in 2019 that broke my back in three places. Fun, fun, fun !

It’s up to you to be forceful and demand proper treatment or appropriate referrals to the proper specialists when your pain needs aren’t being addressed.

*** None of us are doc’s here, so nothing we say is medical advice ***
So, knowing that it’s unspecified pain, have you tried supplements like marshmallow root or mullein to control your mucus / aid your lung health, or glucosamine chondroitin to address you bone pain / possible arthritis needs?

Like you, I am not a fan of opioids, so I do use CBD-infused topicals and oil-filled capsules with CBD+bioperrine to address my pain when it and the neuropathy are unrelenting.

I also know that I’m a side sleeper, and tended to curl in upon my chest, worsening the pain when I was trying to sleep. Putting a buckwheat-filled travel pillow between my arms kept me from curling into a ball when sleeping, easing some of my pain by keeping my chest straight and my arms separated.

I hope something from everyone’s suggestions helps you. Good luck.

I have three types of chest pain (so far):
1. when I have excess mucus in my lungs - pressure in one spot in sometimes a stabbing pain. I drink lots of water.
2. the muscles in the chest are very tight and limit breathing. It took me forever to figure out that this was from anxiety.
3. sore ribs on the sides of my chest. usually from coughing too much.

I have used the pillow like MichaelZerjav and it does really help. I felt it helped absorbed energy and gave me comfort.
Breathe easy my friend.

Thank you. Already on Tylenol 4s. Not a big fan of opiods. I think my dr needs to investigate further to find out exactly what's going on.
