I don't have much help with quiting smoking. I was in the hospital on my death bed. I was there for quite some time. Then I was put in to the pavilion because of mental health. There is no smoking at either place. So when I went home my family had gotten rid of all cigarettes, ash tray and etc. So basically I quite cold turkey. Not all people can go that way but it was a good more for me. Prayers you find the right way for you. I will be smoke free 11 years in August. I have craving occasionally but I've never given in to it. God bless you

I tried the cutting down method and you are doing much better than I did. I was down to 3 a day and I couldn't seem to get lower than that and that went on for about a year. Then my sisters both started to need more help and I had my own place to keep up and I just didn't have time for smoking anymore, so in that way I was able to quit--by keeping insanely busy. It doesn't help that your son still smokes; that would surely make it harder. Have you tried any or all of the no smoking aids? I found that Chantix helped me the most many years ago when I wanted to quit. Quitting smoking has got to be one of the hardest habits to break thata there is I think, so I am wishing you much luck in your efforts @A MyCOPDTeam Member! Chris

Thank you all. I've tried all the methods except chantix. I found out I can't be hypnotized. Something about my will being too strong. I'll get to be a non smoker. I've just got to put that will to work.

Your hanging on to smoking out of a mental fix, you wait for that one smoke a day in fact you look forward to it and when its done you look forward to the next day for that one smoke. You can't quit because you really don't want to. Most of us have been down all those paths, I know I have. Then one day out of the blue I got mad at me for buying another pouch of tobacco, so I made a promise to myself that when that pouch was gone I would no longer smoke and I got some nicotine patches and gum. That is how I quit, that pouch lasted about a month and I wore those patches for about 4 months. It gets easier after about the third day, you start forgetting about it, then along about the third week you start to feel real good, and I mean real real good, then that feeling also mellows into everyday , then every once in awhile you think gawd a smoke would go good right now, just don't go their. I know a couple of friends fhat quit then started again, one still smokes and the other quit again and rails against smoking. Make the decision then just do it, tapering doesn't help, you get to the spot where your at now, your hanging on for all your worth and your afraid to let go

I tried everything. Was on Chantix so long they couldn't give them to me anymore. That is when my Dr suggested hypnosis. The best $100 I ever spent.
From smoking 3 packs a day, to Zero after the appointment.

Never craved it or been bothered by smoke ever since.
