I did a walk test on a recent visit to my pulmonologist. I walked in the hallway of the hospital where his office is located. I do about one a year. I don't remember it being timed but perhaps it was and I did not know it. The nurse walked with me and checked my oxygen levels as we walked. I was wearing an oximeter on my finger as we walked. Its possible you won't be able to walk the whole time but you should walk as far as you can. I do one yearly along with a breathing test either done in his office or at the hospital on a bigger machine. .....I really hate that one😀

I did the same walking test with an oximeter on my finger and after 2mins. my oxygen level dropped to 83 and the nurse stopped me from walking. I can't walk very long without getting out of breath. The other complication is I have fracture back which interferes with my walking for any length of time. I don't get much exercise and I feel that is very important to help improve your breathing. Before I fell and fractured my back I would walk 1&1/2 miles a day and I only got out of breath on small inclines and I would use my rescue inhaler Albuterol

The doc may use the six minute walk (how far can you walk in six minutes) to measure progress or deterioration in you ability to walk. Not a bad idea to see........
