O I Have Not Whereabouts Is One Available In Toronto
I think is is rather scarce in my area. I asked my former pulmonologist if he could recommend pulmonary rehab for me and his response was that he didn't know of any! On a later visit to my hematologist, I asked him about pulmonary rehab and he took the initiative and looked into it for me (or had his nurse do it) , he found a location, and made an appointment for me. It was very beneficial, and they had oxygen concentrators at each machine, issued you a canula for use there, and respiratory therapists and physical therapists there to assign and monitor your workout. Unfortunately, Medicare and my insurance only paid for several months of rehab. I was given a sheet of exercises to do and was dismissed. I had knee problems as well as seeking pulmonary rehab and they worked with both. I may look into it again, or try to do it on my own.

This is one of those times where you have to be your own advocate. Even though all pulmonologists are taught that Pulmonary Rehab is important and very helpful in managing and controlling COPD, many of them seem to forget this unless there's a program right there that they refer to regularly. So you need to continue to ask about programs, find out where there are programs and push for referrals. That said, you can actually get a membership to the local gym and do your own. As long as you take advantage of trainers to show you how to use equipment and use your own common sense, you can work out a training program of both aerobic and strengthening exercises that will serve you quite well. It doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure it out. 02 is often the biggest reason for attending a hospital or clinic based program: they provide it. I've exercised in gyms all over the US and Canada and even now that I use O2, no one even blinks. But you may have to push for a referral!
Yep, all kinds of little weirdies happen.
I have gone to 4 complete 12 week sessions over the years. Very helpful for prople on COPD. Many people upon being discharged from a severe excaserbation(sp) from the hospital get very little follow up treatment or direction. Rehab is very important in my opinion for all to get. Typing on here in these boxes gets weird sometimes with the type over situation. Any one else notice this? I have had complete sentences dissapear??
