Wouldn't you rather use paint?

Pardons in advance. I hope my "Manswer" doesn't offend you. While modern paint formulas have been modified to be less dangerous than in the past (low VOC, NO lead), I would not trust myself with a project such as this. I don't know that any mask would be helpful, including the industrial type for painting cars. You don't say if your project is inside or out. The last time I painted a bathroom I couldn't go in there for three days afterwards. That was before I knew about Emphysema or COPD.

In addition, the main obstacle my be over+exertion of your arms, chest and upper body muscles. The motions of scraping and wiping and painting are very rhythmic and may actually give your breathing pattern a good workout. But ladders are out of the question. So with the fumes, temperature, ventilation (or lack of) -

I think this is a job best for the Guys to tackle. Maybe round up the nephews or grands, a church group or a few codgers from the local lodge?

I'm willing to bet you are also a great cook and can feed, hydrate and supervise a small work crew all afternoon to get this job done. Your lungs will thank you later.

If you have the energy there's no reason why you shouldn't. Do realize that pain fumes can have an impact, so be prepared if that happens. You can wear a mask that should help with the fumes.

I am pretty sure you can but I would try to get somebody to do it for me 🙃 The fumes could be a problem so maybe check with your doc and then look for low toxic fumes and cleaning supplies for your equipment as well.
