Struggling With Symptoms Of Yet Another Pneumonia Has Me Staying Down…holding The Couch Against The Wall Is About All The Energy I Have.
This is so frustrating. My last hospitalization was in April so I guess I shouldn’t complain, but for crying out loud, I avoid being around people for this very reason. My history shows the environment is my foe…infections from dirt and water are my enemies. Add a weakened immune system and it’s a recipe for misery. Drs tell me they just can’t be avoided. So here I am, waiting to see what my sputum sample shows is possibly growing in my lungs
I’ve grown up being told “that which does… read more
@JaquelineLibbyDelasso…thank you. I am blessed with a husband who supports me unconditionally. I know how fortunate i am to have him. Just talked to my pulmonologist. Starting another course of high power antibiotics for a week. Hopefully this kicks this bug in the butt. Today has been such a challenge. I got a few things done in the house. It took me until…now…but I got them done. Now I’m going to rest. Thanks again for your support.
Awww dear lady, hang in there! there r sure some days that really sux! mine started a 0430 this morning..struggling all day...somedays it does feel like we want to give up...but always remember no matter what we are not alone...we have a wonderful family and so much support! much love and hugs!!!
@A MyCOPDTeam Member….all of those suggestions are being done, and have been for quite some time. I’m told even N95 masks don’t filter the bacterias I get. Pneumonia shots only go so far to protect against the most common pneumonias. But Nocardia, pseudomonas and the barrage of other ones that have infected me do not have vaccination protection. My Infectuous Disease specialist explains the particles are everywhere….water faucets, on our shoes, on outdoor pavement, on the ground and in the air. I change clothes as soon as I get home from anywhere or have been outside. Leave shoes in the garage. Wear a mask outdoors. We change filters in the house and furnace constantly. Removed all carpeting from the house. Yet…I still manage to pick up uncommon bacterias. I’ve been on long term prophylactic antibiotics in the past and continue to take daily prednisone, risking the danger for the benefit. My case has been taken to OHSU in Portland for study. And so it is that all is being done my doctors have come up with. It is what it is. And it’s frustrating.
@A MyCOPDTeam Member…interesting you mention hospice. My doctors have recently introduced me to the idea of hospice in helping to manage my symptoms . While none of my doctors have given a prognosis for the progression, they all believe preparing for downward turns is prudent to overall peace of mind. I have no other options open to me. I am told I’m not a candidate for any surgical procedures. So I think I’ll know when that time comes. It’s great to know there is assistance available to keep me home, which is where I’m most comfortable.
I have just signed on with hospice. My symptoms are getting worse and they can help with medications that Medicare will pay for. They also offer a number of resources and services. Whether we like to admit it or not, most of us are terminal to one degree or another. Just seemed to make sense to get what I needed to live the best I can in the time I have left. Just because you sign up for hospice doesn't mean you are going to leave this earth immediately. It just means that you recognize that there is no point in trying every experimental thing out there to improve a situation that is not going to improve. Just something to think about.
