Are We Losing Weight While We Sleep?
It seems like the pounds are falling off me although I eat pretty well. I recently read that COPDers burn up energy 10 times faster than other people, because it takes more energy for us to breathe. I think this must be happening at night while I sleep. Am I misunderstanding this? And why do some of us keep gaining?
@A MyCOPDTeam Member, what I read was, extra energy is needed to breathe for COPDers; therefore we burn up to 10X the calories of other people. This supposedly manifests itself at night when we don't adjust our breathing. I understand about exercise and calories, but I think this goes beyond that.
I have been the same weight since I was diagnosed with COPD haven’t lost or haven’t gained.
Nope jael my doc says same we use more energy so burn calories quicker
@A MyCOPDTeam Member, Yes, read the same thing about people with lung issues do lose weight because of the calories burned working to give us more air.
For the most part, I’ve stayed about the same, except when I’m sick, then the weight falls off, but it seems more that I don’t eat as much -
Hard to tell, but concerned if you’re losing too much. You’re not big to begin with. Have you asked your doc about it.?
Would hate to think there’s something else going on.
You take care and have a big piece of your fav dessert😉
@A MyCOPDTeam Member. When I stopped working I gained 20lbs. When I was weighed at the doctor in June I had lost 10lbs. I was surprised because I hadn’t changed my eating habits. I do know I can’t eat as much as I used to. But lately I’ve been eating more than usual. And still I’m the same weight. I would like to lose 10 more. But I better be careful what I wish for. lol 😂🤣. Glad your feeling better. Take care.
