Medicare Supplement Plans?
I have been on disability for 2 years, but I have had to pay for my own insurance. I will be going on Medicare in August. Can anyone suggest the best Medicare supplement plan that will cover inhalers. I am finding out that most of the ones I take will not be covered. Thanks for any advice.
Hi Maggie. Just to help clarify my earlier answer. NO current Supplement plan ("Medigap" G thru N) pays for ANY prescription meds. They will cover a Part B med like a home infusion (but this need is rare for us.) Plan pricing may also be determined by your health factor(s) or based on an underwriter's approval. They may also have higher deductibles or out-of-pocket limits than a plain D (drugs-only) or C (Advantage, wrap-around type) policy. Before considering one, you should factor in all your medical needs, not just our COPD. Once your Medicare date arrives you are also in a Special Enrollment period if you choose to switch then. ALL plans run on a calendar year from JAN 01.
Please note. While the website is very helpful to keep track of your research and plan comparisons, these folks can also be reached by phone 24/7 at (Phone number can only be seen by the question and answer creators)
Take care.
can our Gov. do anything about the prices for COPD and other high life saving medicine? it may not be hard on people with money but a person like me i worked all my life they give me some money that i had paid into ss then they take out a portion for health care and medicine but the med is so high it will take all of it to pay for the meds i need to stay alive with believe me 2 or 3 days without advair i am in the hospital for a week or so and i cant get medicaid because of my age anyway i am sorry for going on and on about this so i will just say friends have a breathe easy night
The price of symbicort and spiriva are outrageous. Very few insurance companies even cover them under Medicare Part D. Humana Walmart plan does, for now, but come 2022 who knows. I have to shop coverage each year. At least with private coverage you could get discount cards. The cheapest medication is the proair so I may decide to try it by itself if Humana stops covering my meds. I will of course talk to my dr. If it comes to that. By the way drs. Definitely work with drug reps. I wish the drugs I’m in came in genetic form but they don’t, it’s a racket!
omg i am having to make that same kind of choices to and i want to thank everyone that answer your questions because your questions are also mine question
You really need to go to www.medicare.gov and use the tools they have that will help you choose the best Part D. plan. Unless you get a Medicare Advantage plan instead of a supplement, you'll need Part D for medications. You can also read about the difference between the Advantage plans and supplement plans. With COPD, I've found a supplement is by far the less expensive and gives me complete freedom of choice regarding docs, specialists, etc.
This Year I Will Be Going On Medicare. Looking For A Plan To Cover COPD Meds And Inhalers.
Is It True That Medicare Doesn't Cover Portable Oxygen?
How Do You Afford Inhalers With Medicare??
