Takiing care of a thrach at home is not difficult. Many people do it. Talk with the doc and have a nurse come to show you how to do it. Ask lots of questions, and be sure you understand the answers.

Just wondering if anyone has done this and if it makes the patient feel more at ease than being in a nursing home

That's a question for the doctor and insurance involved. Then the question of how much care this involves and can family and/or friends be trained to do it.
