Is Anyone Using Marijuana For Treatment Of COPD?

A MyCOPDTeam Member asked a question 💭
Eugene, OR

I'm new here and live where marijuana is legal. I'm trying to learn how to use it for breathing issues, and not doing real well on my own. I was "given" a diagnosis of emphysema in 20ll after formaldehyde exposure at work. I know THC is a bronchodilator. Tried bong to sift out tars, but it doesn't work well. Edibles and oil I've tried have simply made me sleepy and gave me huge case of munchies. I have access to vape pens and such, and am trying to find a way to make it work. I am on no… read more

Actually Barbara the American lung association just came out and said vaping is 98% better then smoking. A couple years ago, the health ministry in the UK said the same thing. The reason you were having problems breathing is from quitting smoking. I had the same problem, in fact most of the people I know that vape went through something similar. You just need to forge through it, within a couple weeks you'll feel so better you won't believe it. Since quitting smoking, and taking up vaping, my lung function has gone from 48% to 84%, and my O2 had gone up to around 98%.

Sounds like you need to get in touch with Rick Simpsons group and see about some of the tinctures for under the tongue. You can also consult with Charlottes Web...depends on the strain those edibles are made of as to what your body will do.

Thanks Sandra. I'll keep trying. The encouragement helps a lot.. I seem to be weird...the RSO just knocked me out, but I'll try different strains. For what it's worth, I'm allergic to Albuterol and Qvar and I just want to live fully...silly of me! 😀 rather than sleep through the remainder of this life.

I posted a reply a few days ago but can no longer see it. You need to go to a pulmonologist. If you don't have insurance or can't afford it find a way to afford it. This disease is not something to try and treat by yourself, that is a very bad idea. Even healthcare professionals know better than to try and treat themselves, but it seems to be a fad to self treat these days. As I posted earlier, THC is a bronchodilator, but it is a poor one. I rarely use a bronchodilator any more thanks to breathing exercises that I've been taught. I have it in my pocket at all times for emergencies however. Two puffs opens my lungs and lasts between four and six hours. Under the absolute best clinical situations THC lasts two hours as a bronchodilator and doesn't do a very good job at opening the airways when compared to medications currently available.
