I Have To Have A D & C Under General Anesthesia. I Am Worried Not Only About The Procedure But Recovery.

My family is saying I am making too much of it. Am I worried without cause? Does my fears effect the outcome?

Are you asking about the procedure and recovery on its own or related to a breathing condition?

Breathing conditions will be all taken care of by the Dr.s involved and you should have nothing to worry about there.

If you are asking about the actual procedure and the afterwards, piece of cake-nothing to worry about.

I got hit with an ambulance ride to the hospital and an emergency Hysterectomy and not knowing what to expect. Had I known in advance there is a group (probably several now) of people who had that procedure and they were a wealth of information that I could have used prior (had I known) but did used after-the-fact, and it really helped.

Do some online research about the procedure so that you will feel more comfortable about what will happen, before, during, and after...If you are concerned about any breathing concern, speak with your Dr. and trust in your Dr.s that they will do what is best.

If your pulmo's concerned, then you probably need the surgeon and the pulmo to have a powwow and come to conclusion. I've found that most people who need surgery and have concerns do best when the anesthesiologist is experienced in working with people with COPD. They know what to watch out for and can keep things on an even keel during surgery. So if things are a little concerning, talk with the anesthesiologist prior to surgery and find out if she's experienced with people with COPD. If not, you may want to see if there's another one who is.

I have had surgery twice in the past five years & each time, the surgeon & my primary physician have me thoroughly cleared for the procedures. In fact, last time the anesthesiologist gave me a nebulizer treatment before going into the OR. You should discuss your fears with the surgeon who should be able to help you.

Check with your pulmo to see if she would be concerned. What's your FEV1? Why are you concerned?
