How Do You Cook When On Oxygen 24/7

A MyCOPDTeam Member asked a question 💭
Manchester, UK

I was recently seen by the specialist oxygen nurse and we were in agreement to wean me off my oxygen, I only used it at night. Unfortunately, I was admitted to hospital for three weeks with severe chest infections, both right and left lung. Since my discharge, I've been on oxygen 2L, 24/7 and I also have a nebuliser at home now.

Same way you do if you don't use O2. Just be careful where the hose goes: you don't want it to burn or develop a hole. Many people run the hose down their back instead of their front to keep it out of the way. You can cook with gas, just watch where the hose is.

Using an electric stove/oven is ideal. However, I have a gas stove and am unable to afford an electric one. So, I make sure I use the back burners, my oxygen tubing is behind my back. I do have the cannula in my nose but the least amount of tubing being exposed. I try to be extremely careful. I have no idea what the medical community has to say about this. Be well...........

My Mom had a gas stove when on oxygen, @A MyCOPDTeam Member. The ox tech had her put her cannula on over her head (with the hose trailing over her shoulder / down her back) when she wanted to cook. She was fine, as it's all about being careful. I hope you're feeling much better, and that you've found a solution for cooking.
