A MyCOPDTeam Member asked a question 💭
San Diego, CA

I would like to chat with those folks who have COPD and have fought Lung Cancer successfully at same time.

My COPD was diagnosed in 2007, has been severe but un-changed and stable for ALL 9 yrs.

Have been diagnosed with "early onset" Lung Cancer Nov 9th of THIS month. Am gearing up for 2nd round of chemo in Early December.

@A MyCOPDTeam Member...
Awww, thanks! I am very near the end of the 30 Radiation treatments! Finished 12 chemo last week.... (they were 3 a week and then a 3 wk break.)
My hair is trying eagerly to grow in! Some are probably 1/2" !!!! WoooHooo! Many appear to be silver. I don't care. Any color is just fine.

I have had some pretty nasty side effects but they are not permanent. The copd is the only thing I will need to manage at the end of this. It will stick around...
I will need all of this group then too.

SuZZ, I have copd and am a lung cancer survivor. It was found early too, I saw a surgeon first. He would not operate on me because my lungs were so bad he was afraid to put me fully under, I might have a rough time coming out of the deep sleep. He sent me to a radiation surgeon. It was great! The process setting up for for the surgery was lengthy, markers (tattoos) are put inside you lungs (4) and 1 out side. The then make a cast laying down of your back, neck and arms. When all that is done I went in everyday for w week and was shot each time 11 different times the machine goes around you body completely hitting only the cancer 11 time each day for 5 days. Through the whole process I never had any pain! Not even when they put the markers in my lungs. I highly recommend radiation surgery if at all possible!! I think I waited a month and had another scan and it should only some scare tissue. I just made it to my 4th year check up! I had no chemo!

@A MyCOPDTeam Member - I can't believe it has been 4 months since you sent out the first memo bout your lung cancer. Since then you have come a long way. You are a strong woman and have a great attitude. I am proud to call you a friend.
When I was working in Oncology the Doctor I worked with called Chemo "Rescue Therapy". When I asked why he said it was similar to killing the patient and then resurrecting them again. Things have been greatly improved since the early use of Chemo but the essence is the same. Keep your friends posted regarding your progress.. We care.
