Oxygen Level

A MyCOPDTeam Member asked a question 💭
Trafalgar, IN

I am on oxygen 24/7 I am having problems with my oxygen level dropping when I stand up and start walking. O2 at rest is 95/96 when I start moving around my O2 drops sometimes as low as 81/82 does anyone know what is causing this to happen? I take Sprivia and Advair daily.

it's getting harder for your lungs to put oxygen into your blood.
It may help to get your heart bet up some before getting up from your chair by moving around some ..if your chair can rock do that for a few mins before getting up..see if that helps some.

Moving about takes a lot more O2 than just sitting. You can turn your O2 up when you move. One thing that would help is exercise. Well toned ad strong muscles use a lot less O2 to work than weak flabby ones.

First of all do not play around with your oxygen levels...putting them up if you feel that you may not be getting enough is to be made in conjunction with your pulmonary doctor......besides oxygen does not necessarily stop you getting SOB....

When your resting saturation at room air is above an absolute minimum of 88% even like mine sitting much higher, any sudden drop on the slightest exertion is worth getting looked at as it could be gas trapping or retention of CO2 where not enough oxygen is getting into your blood stream as there is a build up of Carbon Dioxide.....Usually PLB does this exchange for you but as lung function decreases, it gets much harder, putting pressure on your heart to work twice as hard......I would suggest getting a Echo Scan done to rule out this possibility, as eventually you could end up with cardiac issues as well..

Oxygen levels increasing after walking is more likely it has dropped and after a short rest they return to what is considered your average.......There is no real increase.....just appears that way...

@A MyCOPDTeam Member you got alot of good advice here, but with percentage drops like that, the first thing I would do is call my pulmonary doctor's office and talk to someone, that is wayyyy toooo much......I never up and down my oxygen unless told by my doctor.......take care.....love and God Bless..!!

@A MyCOPDTeam Member...I agree with them. You need to talk to your doctor, about justing your oxygen level. Because it varies with different. people.
