Has Anyone Experienced Damage To Their Vocal Cords Due To Being Intubated? I Think That Is What Happened But Not Sure?
I was intubated in an emergency situation, My voice now sounds like a frog at best, most of the time it sounds like I am loosing my voice, I cant get out every word in a sentence and have to keep repeating myself which makes it worse.. In two words... ''Most definitely''....Many people who have been intubated have similar issues....Even NIV can cause scratchiness in your throat for a period but not as severe as having a tube down your throat for a couple of weeks that can lead to infection as well..xxx
Find another ENT specialist also ask your doctor to refer you to a Speech Pathologist, they are the experts at diagnosing vocal and speech issues. Good luck
I did as well. Your voice will return to normal, or at least for me. I have had this happen twice to me in the last 7 months. For me I would say it took about 2-3 weeks. Don't worry π
If an EMT was rude and Mean, you should report him to whom ever he works for, that is uncalled for..
It is a side effect of being intubated but without it you wouldn't be here....... just hope you don't need to have that done again. Support groups can help you overcome many things. I thank God everyday I wake up and realize He has given me another day !!
