Does Anyone Suffer With Depression

A MyCOPDTeam Member asked a question 💭
Hamilton, OH

When I first got diagnosed with stage 2 copd I felt like my life was over, I was in denial for a few months and i started to get really depressed because I didn't have anyone to talk to about what I was going through so I went to my doctor and ask what to do and she put me on depression medication, I've been on 100mg Zoloft since last Nov and its helped some....

@A MyCOPDTeam Member good words! If I was depressed you would lift me up! I do get depressed some time, how can we not be! But you have to take a deep breath and think how lucky we are! And when we realize exercise will help us make our life much easier! Exercise is so hard, but very rewarding!!

@A MyCOPDTeam Member. I think COPD and depression go hand in hand. It is so hard to live with a disease that there is no cure for and it is a progressive disease so we will only get worse. Now that would make anyone depressed. I do not take anything anymore since it interacts with my fungal medication.

Have you told your Dr that the Zoloft has helped, but am guessing you are still depressed. I would revisit with your Dr and see if you need an increase in meds or change to a different one.

God Bless

5 way breathing. Breathe in through your nose and then blow out 4 times with your lips pursed (close together) until you let the air all the way out. Do this 5 times.

I do get depressed at times and find myself worrying about the future and hoping there is a future for me...The best medicine that I can recommend is exercise and a positive attitude. You really do have control of this disease...just keep moving and keep breathing. And try the pursed lip breathing exercises. I feel stronger immediately. It really does help. I hope everyone is having a great day.
