I will be working on something and get involved to the point I forget about my breathing, then all of a sudden I remember the breathing and that's when the SOB starts. Sometimes I think a lot of my problem is in my mind!! How can you breath fine one minute (while your not thinking about it) and then have trouble as soon as you start thinking??

When you notice you are not breathing right, you probably panic which causes breathing problems. Just take it easy, do not panic, and your breathing might get better. Good luck!

It's the same for me. I can walk all over my house and not be the least bit out of breath, but if I think about it, I can barely take three steps before SOB. Has to be some amount of mind over matter.

Hi there it is called Anxiety many of us with COPD have this issue. We feel pretty good when we are out or busy but when we stop then the breathing issues start. Myself had to start taking Alprazolam 0.25 mg low dose Xanax. Twice a day which works yes it may be addicting but so is breathing. Many people with COPD are on anti anxiety meds in order to cope do not suffer for nothing. Blessings Francine
