The Weather
Just wondering. Is COPD effected more by humidity or cold (winter). I find if I get hot I start to cough.
It depends on the individual. Some people are affected by all weather changes; others react worse in the winter to cold and wind than in the summer to heat and humidity. There's no rule about this. You'll just have to figure out which you respond to and in what ways. Then you need to figure out what you can to avoid some of the negative effects.
There's really nothing I find that helps with the humidity that ruined my plans for today. I stay quiet and in the house with the air conditioning and keep the oxygen on. Like somebody here said, in the winter it's a lot easier because you can use a scarf. I wish I did have the answer, believe me. This is the first summer I've had to stay inside and that is totally foreign to me. I don't like this one little bit. lol
So far I don't find the cold effects me, only the heat and humidity. Also, if my body gets hot from walking quickly I start to cough.
I wear a mask when it is cold out and it makes a big difference. When it is hot, there isn't much you can do except to adjust your schedule to go out when it is cooler ( usually in the morning or after sundown)
I truly believe both more hot makes it very hard to breath and cold causes more cough.
