I stopped smoking the hard way - I almost died and was in the hospital for 3 week and then told that I would never be able to live alone again so I decided to live in an assisted living facility that didn't allow smoking. I used the patch at first but being around other people who didn't smoke helped a lot. Also the fact that I was alive made me realize I did the right thing. By the way - I only stayed at this facility for 4 months and when I became stronger went back home - this was over 3 years ago now and my doctor can't believe how well I am doing. Do everything you can to stop smoking so you don't have to go through what I did. Good luck.

I smoked for about 60yrs Been quit for 5yrs. I laid a half pack on the table where I use to put my boots on for work and smoked, drank coffee. I used patches for probably about a month maybe two. Every time I want a smoke I would look at that pack of cigarettes and think about how much I'd like to have one. Then I would think about how I couldn't breathe and how hard it was to breathe the night I went to the HOSPITAL. IT'S HARD BUT YOU CAN DO IT.

As I've said before, I quit cold because I knew I would die if I didn't. I had thought about it and talked about it, but I enjoyed having a cigarette, and smoked 56 years. I don't tell anyone they have to quit as it's really none of my business. I do share that I'm on oxygen 24/7 because I smoked all those years.

So sorry to hear this, We on this site are all affected by the dreaded ciggies, all at different stages but probably all full of regret, if we could only turn the clock back, but we can't. It's onwards and upwards trying to fill our lives with as much happiness as we can, I can't offer you a miracle cure but I can offer my full support and a listening ear, take care.x
