Inhaler Mishaps: Have You Ever Inhaled An Object Lodged In Your Inhaler?

Inhalers should always be checked prior to use, but sometimes that step is skipped. The results can be scary.

YES!!!!!!!! I thought I was gonna die!! I had my inhaler in my pocket, at work. I'd lost the lid. I was working with potting soil and got a little tight chested. Took it out and put it straight into my mouth, without checking and inhaled a piece of pine bark!!! It was awful! Learned a valuable lesson, that day!!

I have not had that experience however, I inhaled while taking a vitamin. Very scary I called EMT’s by the time they got to my house it had started to dissolve. I coughed all day.

What did you do?

Just got into bed and started to read a magazine then decided to take a puff of my Xopenex rescue inhaler. I felt a something hard and scratchy (like plastic) catch in the back of my throat, didn't even make me cough. I was able to reach in with my finger and kinda scoop it out so I'm lucky it lodged on the side because it didn't go down my throat and it wasn't plastic it was a 1/2 inch black beetle and he was really mad wiggling like crazy in the palm of my hand.

I had a glass of water and Kleenex on my night table so I rinced the Xopenex from him, dried him off, called someone to come get him to take him outside and send him on his merry way.
I hope he survived he was a cute little guy. This could have been a catrosphe and not a good outcome like it was and maybe killed us both, him for sure.
From then on I have tapped every inhaler on the palm of my hand as well as kept the cap on.
