I have been put on antidepression meds and i see a therapist once a month now. My question is are others besides myself that need anti depressants and therapy after being diagnosed with COPD?

Lucy, besides the meds, you could also find a good talk therapist. A good one will help you figure out how to cope, perhaps without the meds. That's always a good thing......

Marietta, COPD is a chronic condition. That means it isn't going to go away and may not get any better than it is right now. However, it's not going to kill you like cancer unless you are in the very advanced stages. Many of us, even those of us with severe to very severe COPD actually end up dying from something else, sometimes something completely unassociated with COPD.

So I suppose in one sense it is terminal....but life is terminal. I don't consider it terminal. It's chronic and it can be managed and controlled, just like depression.

Hyla, if you had a talk therapist, you might not be so dependent on your meds and you might learn how to cope without them, or with fewer......just sayin'.......

I also went down to a very dark place ...and the denial was my only coping skill....not a very good one..I have stage3(48%) so nothing to get happy about..I miss closeness and hate having to worry about my body...I take extra vitamin D ....it is a bitch...now I try to exercise and help others....it helps me....I visit my pity pot way too often ...hugs to you

@A MyCOPDTeam Member depression is normal. Let your doctor know what the one you have now makes you sleepy. I am on xanax that helps me but puts others to sleep. Try others. Today I had a meltdown even with meds. Just look up and smile.
