Have You Ever Been In The Sole Care Of A Nurse Practitioner, And If So, Were You Satisfied With Your Treatment?
I had my first appt with a nurse practitioner yesterday, one whom I had seen before. I wanted a doctor within the practice , but was given this lady instead. I asked her what a doctor can do that she cannot do, and she said, 'basically nothing, except maybe put you in a nursing home'.
She will understand if I hold out for a doctor, but I liked her and would not mind staying in her care.
Have you ever been in this situation, and is it working okay for you? Thanks
Jael, the proof is in the pudding. Her treatment of your issues is what tells the most. Is she reliable and willing to listen to you?
I have had and still have many NP's @A MyCOPDTeam Member. My primary care person is a NP and the one I have now is very good. The other ones I had as primary care physicians just referred me to a specialist. Even now, some of the specialists I was referred to have turned me over to their NP's. For the most part I like the NP's better than the
doctors, but I do still have two "real" doctors. I wish you luck with yours! Chris

I was in Maine with a dental abscess ,camping ,and it turned into cellulitis ,or an infection of the fatty layer under the skin ,that had worked its way down to my chest .I was in Walmart that had a nurse practitioner clinic ,a nurse practitioner saw me and prescribed antibiotics ,that we picked up at the Walmart Pharmacy .The charge was $50 .I was really grateful for her care ,Oh yes she did a followup on me the next morning .I wish we had more of them here in Canada .

They are adding a bunch of nurse practitioners here in Alberta as it is hard to get enough doctors. I don't think I would mind going to one if I didn't have a doctor
