What Works Best For You For Getting Mucus Up Out Of Your Lungs?

A MyCOPDTeam Member asked a question 💭

So far I have only had success with the huff cough and the Acapella doesn't work for me at all. I know this is a "sticky" and "yucky" subject, but one I think many of you have struggled with in the past and I would love to learn about something else that might help me get it up to get rid of it.

There is no magic bullet, sorry to say. Drink a lot of water, take mucinex or mullein tea to help thin the mucus. I also take fisetin which helps reduce the production of mucus. As for Acapella device, sometimes I have to use it 3 or 4 times in a row with 10 breaths each to help loosen it. The best is reduce the amount of mucus produced.
Warm regards,
Gary

I was told by a pulmonary therapist that if my nose is plugged you can put the cannula in your mouth and breathe through your mouth. I've tried it and it does work until my nose is clear. I hope it works for you if you want to try it. Take care breathe easy

Luckily I don't produce much mucus. Have the Acapella device and tried it several times and nothing happens I guess because I don't have any mucus. Just wish I could get rid of the SOB. I do YouTube breathing exercises everyday and sometimes my spO2 will be 100 but always at least 98.

@A MyCOPDTeam Member I have heard that pineapple juice works well for thinning the mucus so it's easier to expell. Worth a try. Chris, October 29, 2024

@A MyCOPDTeam Member put a few lemon slices in your water. The water tastes much better. Mucinex 1200mg didn't work for me. The only way I can get mucus up is by coughing.
