COPD Flare Ups. How To Cope With Them And After Effects.
I had a Flare Up in September last year had Antibiotics and Steroids which helped. It’s now January and I’m still coughing and producing gunge from my chest.
The Flare Up was my first really bad attack having had COPD for over 12 plus years, so I guess I’ve been lucky.
I had my last one the beginning of December. After I start feeling better I start back with my exercise routine. Breathing exercises, as well as upper body workout, along with walks. I do drink mullein tea to help with the phlegm, and eat heathy food staying away from carbs.
You have been lucky. It is a learning curve as to what will help you best, trial and error. This is what has worked for me, exercise seems to be a key.
It can take a long time to recover from pneumonia if you have COPD. I found that resuming my exercise program as soon as I could without coughing myself off the treadmill, was the best thing I could do. I had to go back practically to the beginning and slow things way down, but it didn't take long to get back to where I had been before I got sick.
I go in Prednisone and Zithromax and it is usually fine within a week for me
I find that chest infections hit me quite hard. My last one was the worst I can remember experiencing.
Michael Zerjav. Thank you for your reply. I do attend a weekly Chair Yoga class plus also a weekly keep fit class. Sometimes that does effect me breathing wise. As my instructor has told me I cannot, during the class reach the level of exercise that I was at prior to my flare up. I also do all my shopping and go to the particular store, I do not use a delivery service so I end up carrying two bags of shopping lol. I realise I have to reset my life after the flare up and find the levels I can handle easily. Thanks again for your reply. Regards Dave Carter
