If you're talking about breaths per minute, it depends. If you're just sitting and not doing much of anything, maybe 12-15 breaths per minute is comfortable. That number increases as the rate of exertion increases. COPD is a disease where some people with it may breathe at a rate that is far faster than normal people because of their disease, depending on what they're doing. Optimal number is what keeps you comfortable.
