Flu’ish Upon Wakening
Whether it’s first thing in the morning or after a nap, I feel awful when I wake up. Feverish, achy, sick all over. It lasts for 2-4 hours. Then, I feel better.
Anyone else? Yes, I know…go to the doctor but that would mean I would have to go to the doctor.
Is this some drug working against me? The evil prednisone?
Thanks.

I’m on 10 mg of prednisone daily but I don’t think that’s the problem for me now. It’s too much O2…for me, especially because I’m using more than what my doctor ordered. I used to think More Makes More (my mantra) but…not when it comes to oxygen.
Best of Luck,
Karen
I just remembered something else my respiratory therapist told me about carbon dioxide buildup in the lungs.Your inflamed airways and damaged lung tissue make it harder for you to breathe in the oxygen you need and breathe out the carbon dioxide that your body wants to get rid of. It also lends itself to the same symptoms you referenced. He told me to blow all the air out of my lungs from time to time throughout the day to keep the air free from buildup of the carbon dioxide. It can trigger the feeling of shortness of breath long before you are actually low on breath. When you purse lips & breathe and blow upon SOB they tell you to blow all your air out to eliminate the problem. Good thing to do first thing in the morning. Really makes breathing easier. Well, as easier as it might get for each individual. We all have our individual bar of success we use as measurement. Hope this info might help someone. Exercise is always good even when you start for a measly five minutes a day or even a small goal of pushing yourself just a little. I have stairs in my house as well as a little bike that I seldom use but need to get my act together and start. The stairs are my goals. Going up and down and slowly increasing my muscle buildup that supports helping the muscles around and in your lungs. It's so hard and discouraging but we're in this together and should celebrate the baby steps we accomplish as well as the bigger accomplishments. We don't have to move the damn mountain we just have to try and get up it a little bit more, a little at a time.

I’m going with Susan Cooke’s suggestion about over- oxygenation while we sleep. In fact, last night, I turned my concentrator down a click and woke up feeling pretty okay. It makes a lot of sense. Perhaps you would want to try it?
My best to you.
Karen
You can adjust your oxygen level at the base. I’m on 2 liters and I just leave it there
Hi, @A MyCOPDTeam Member, I was just reading about your husband’s health issues and hoping you’re both doing better, all things considered? Hoping he will make a full recovery from his stroke, fall and brain injury. Hugs.
