Steroids
How often can you be on steroids with severe copd?
As often as necessary. While none of us are thrilled to be put on oral prednisone, the fact that it helps with breathing is paramount! There are some side effects that you can have even with steroid bursts, though they are certainly less that those encountered with long term oral steroid use. That said, there are folks who have been on long term steroid use for years.
Inhaled steroids have far fewer side effects and can be used for many years with minimal problems. Just FYI, Bunny1227, Trelegy does contain an inhaled corticosteroid, along with a LABA and a LAMA; so it's not just the steroid.
Yes different Dr's do sometimes have different ideas. It's a shame one can't be on Steroids long term without damage being done to bones other organs. Good to read other folk have done Pulmonary rehabilitation it helped me very much. When 1st diagnosed every time I got very breathless thought got to have steroids but Pulmonary rehab taught me to understand and manage my COPD, to try not to get so anxious " I know how hard that can be" and of course I understand it varies depending what stage we are in our COPD journey. Take care. Breathe Easy xx
It is not going to be the same for everyone. I take them only when I really need them.
About every 3 months
