I have been using my nebulizer with albuterol sulfate twice a day for a long time. It does make it hard to sleep sometimes. I have had to adjust the times I use it so I can sleep. I don't use mine past early evening.

A number of the inhalers we take do seem to have the effect of a higher heart rate, and major tachycardia in some folks. If you're one of them, you may need to do some experimenting with various meds. Some have less effect than others if this is a problem, so work with your doc to determine which ones might work best for you. Also look at the times you take them; right before bedtime is probably not a good idea. The pulmos generally know which ones don't have that effect as much; your PCP won't have any idea of what you're talking about, so see your pulmo!

I have been using my nebulizer since 1998. When i first started using it I got the jitters after a while they went away. Several time I have nodded off to sleep while using it. People react differently you may have trouble sleeping and you may not. Make sure you allow enough time to get used to it.

If you must stay on an inhaler, @A MyCOPDTeam Member, talk to the pulmonary doc about switching from albuterol (the insurance companies prefer this) to something with with less jittery side effects such as xopenex or Qvar. Good luck.

I have been using the nebulizer since late about 1998-99. I’m talking regularly. I do the duoneb up to 4 times a day. Most of the time it’s 1-2 times a day. Also the use of the different medication one uses in the nebulizer also makes a difference. Albuterol is to open us up while the albuterol/ ipratropium bromide is for action. If I’m going out walking I try to use my duoneb first. Helps with me being in action. I also think it’s like when we use prednisone, sometimes it’s hard to fall asleep 😴 when one takes this. Other times it helps me to fall asleep. Anxiety may play a part when we use our meds.
