Does Anyone Else Have Problems Breathing While On Oxygen When Doing Small Chores.

A MyCOPDTeam Member asked a question 💭

I use oxygen while at the store and walk fairly slow and using a cart. By the time I am done, maybe 20 minutes or so I am complitly out of breath and almost have a panic attack. When I get back in my truck it takes a good 10 minites for my breathing to slow down. Anyone else have this problem?

Using O2 isn't going to necessarily keep you from being SOB; it's there to keep your O2 sats up so you don't have heart and brain damage. If you continue to walk, or exert yourself, air trapping will increase and you will eventually be SOB. If you use your PLB techniques from the very beginning and stay slow and deliberate and remember to breathe regularly, you won't get as SOB quite so fast. When you do feel yourself getting SOB, you can slow down and keep walking or stop completely and get your breathing back where you want it to be.

That said, talk with your doc about an exercise program such as pulmonary rehab. Actually exercising and building your muscles will help you become less sob. If you'd like to be able to do more and be more comfortable while doing it, get your doc's approval to start exercising and get moving.

I agree with you. I have gotten so disgusted with the state our country is in and all the drama that I don’t watch the news much at all anymore. Only gets me stressed out and that is not good for me. My local news always has a story about someone abusing a child or an animal and that stresses me out so I just don’t watch or read the paper. My big concern is no doctors or medications for people who can’t pay. We just let them suffer and die. Enough of my complaints. Enjoy your evening. I am adding you to my team. Hope you don’t mind.

Yes I can relate to that while shopping,as long as i am pushing the cart my stats seem to hold,I check my oximeter to see where i am at and when i stop at the cashier thats when they staer to drop and i put my concentrator on.I leave it on while unloading cart and pushing back to car, seems to work for me,but everyone is different.

yes it is a crime that society has come to this, the big corporations are so involved with profit and they forget about people who have disabilities. This includes doctors offices, hospitals etc,its all a business.Gone is the time neighbors helped each other and had a concern for the sick and disabled.Even the president of America mocks the disabled at is now going to sperate children from their parents again, this is sick. What happened to crimes against society?I wish I had the guts to go with my oxygen concentrator and a sign to the gates of the white house and demonstrate what government is doing to us.
