I'm End Stage COPD 4liters Oxygen24/7 I Sleep 12 Hours A Night. Why Do I Sleep So Much.
I go to bed at 11:00pm or 12:00midnight and I sleep until noon the next day. My Husband has to wake me up every morning so I will get up. I do not understand why I sleep so much. I do not sleep during the day. I may dose off at night watching Tv. I do sleep with a trilogy machine, but I have been sleeping so much even before I started using the trilogy machine. Any information would be much apricated..
I want to thank everyone that commented on my question I really Appreciate it. I have had Depression all my life been on medication for depression and anxiety since 1980. For a couple months all I did was cry day and night, so talked to my Dr he took me off my Wellbutrin I was taking for my Depression and put me on Paxil started 50 mg for a month helped maybe50% then put me on 100mg and I am not crying anymore and I really do not feel depressed. I sometime feel lonely. I'm Married 46 years to a wonderful man who takes really good care of me, he does everything. When I go back to my family Dr I will tell him about my sleeping all the time. As far as turning my oxygen up I'm on a trilogy machine and I turn my oxygen up to 5 when I sleep. I go to Pulmonary Rehab to exercise 3x a week been going 11 years so I get exercise. Everyone Take Care
Hi, @A MyCOPDTeam Member, I have to agree with some of the commenters here that the extreme sleep may be due to your body either not processing the CO2 well, or it may be due to the extreme exhaustion which can go along with our disease.
While there are times when I will sleep off and on all day and all night, that's very rare as I'm usually in too much pain once I've slept about 4 hours, so I end up waking myself up.
Unfortunately, we all don't have the same versions of the disease, so telling you to turn up any oxygen without a doctor's or respiratory therapist's approval and guidelines may defeat the purpose of using the oxygen in the first place. ***If you use too much oxygen, you can actually cause a side effect that causes hardening of your lungs, making the breathing situation even more difficult. (***Per my Better Breather's Class).
Take care of you.
Lack of oxygen getting to your muscles, brain etc could be causing excess fatigue.
to brenda,do not worry about sleeping it is your bodys time to repair when you are at rest.It takes a lot of enegy for the body to just breathe, and depends what you do during the day it is important you get rest, although twelve hrs seems a lot,I have my bouts during the day if i just lay down in bed to watch tv before i know it im off,not intending to sleep. The time of year has a lot to do,change of seasons etc, sleep well and above all breathe well.
Hi Brenda, I appreciate your concern for your sleep habit but it’s not uncommon and could have a number of underlying causes other than just being plain old tired. This condition we are plagued with uses a lot of energy just in the air processing we need to breathe and circulate blood through our system. But being tired can also indicate that we are suffering from depression and sleep is the body’s escape mechanism . You also indicate you’re on 4 liters of oxygen - you should check with your doctor and see if you should maybe move that up to 5 liters. Not sure if this is of any help but you should certainly call your doctor and get in for a checkup
Breathe easy and know we are praying for you🤗🙏
