Margaret, you can use it any time you're feeling sob. That will tell you if the problem is not enough O2 or if you're building up CO2 and need to blow it off. If your sats are below 88, you can turn the O2 up; if they're above 88, just slow down, do your pursed lip breathing and watch your sats come back up.

Ok @A MyCOPDTeam Member - So I'm assuming that near or under the 75 it say like ??pm and under the lower 92 you'll see O2 - that means right now your heart is beating 75 beats per min. and your Oxygen level is 92..

So to get back to your original question..O2 at night to put it up...I say don't bc I'm on it 24/7 without it my O2 stats rang anywhere from 87 to 89 - and I'm at 2.5 liters...

However I would begin to keep track of it after you've been up and around - also first thing in the morning - and when you have been sitting still..

Hope this helps you...But please be sure you consult your doctor also...

I'm on oxygen 24/7 at 2 liters but when sweeping running vacuum I get really out of breath the Dr said I could turn it to 3 but when I'm finished turn it back down . But you need to talk with your Dr. I ordered my oxymeter from Amazon I pd $13.99 and it's just like the one my nurse uses...breathe easy my friend

Do you have an oximeter? If you don't, I suggest you get one so you can check your own O2 sats and not be guessing all the time. You can get them from Walmart or Walgreens pretty inexpensively, and if you want a good one, you can get them on the internet. I recommend the Nonin Go2 Achieve; I have three of them. They're very accurate, the measure your sats even when you're moving and they're medically calibrated.

Once you know what your sats are doing, then you can go to your doc and let her know when your O2 is running under 88. That should rigger a six minute walk test where you want to really walk as hard as you can, because you want this to be accurate and show when you really do need O2 and how much you need. This is not a place where you want to just stroll along; you want to be really moving because that's when you begin to feel out of breath and need O2.
