What Is Life Expectancy Of Patient With 25 Percent Lung Capacity
I have c.o.p.d. and asthma i have 25 % lung function i require oxygen and sleep with pap machine.
Who knows? No one comes with an "expired by" date stamped somewhere where the sun don't shine, or any other place that I know of, and anyone who gives you a firm answer is either God in person or shining you on. I know people who have far less than 25% lung function who are living very full and happy lives and are likely to keep going long after I'm gone, and I know people with 60% lung function who might easily expire tomorrow. The fact that you use oxygen and use a c-pap machine to sleep are just facts and have nothing to do with your potential life expectancy. Your lung function is really just a number. What's important is how you feel, what you can do and what you're willing to do to remain as healthy as possible.
. I have 21% of my lung capacity left. Been this way for about 3 years. Take your meds every day. And above all. Exercise. Check into pulmonary rehab. And don't worry about dying . Concentrate on living my friend.
I am soon going to be 81 , been on oxygen for well over ten years this flu season has kept me home bound as this area has had the flu really bad, I usually find a way to take care of my needs until the past few weeks and now I am trying to accept any and all help offered to me, everyone be careful and just maybe we will make it until spring .
I ask one of my doctors several years ago how long could I live with my condition and he said "It is up to you" he went on to say if you stay active and use your medications then you may live to be an older lady and get all your shots like for the Flu and Pneumonia and then he said if you do this then don't ask me this question again because there is no way to measure time with this disease . He said it is up to each person and how bad you want to live.
I have to agree with the others. Nobody knows how long we're going to last. I feel so much better than I did a year ago, so I suppose maybe I'm getting better instead of worse ;) (I did quit smoking...) I do what I can to stay healthy, and try to stay busy, or at least keep my mind occupied. It's not easy sometimes, but I don't know what else to do and I'm not ready to hang it up.
