Only had a chest exray and lab work done. Dr called and told me it is copd. Had pneumonia 4 times last year, finally got the vaccination and been ok since, except mild wheezing and some mucus occasionally. However, I've had stream weight loss unintentionally, just can't seem to eat much as I get so full, night sweets, extreme fatigue, lots of hair loss, constant headache, stopped using my asmanex because it's just too expensive to have filled, but use my nebulizer with albuterol as needed and⦠read more
Your stomach and lungs occupy essentially the same space. When your lungs can't compress to allow a big stomach full...you feel "full". So you eat less , and lose weight. It's a common problem for most of us. Try to eat several (six) ? small meals a day instead of three large ones. Or use a high profile shake once or twice a day instead of one of those meals. You need to hold on to weight to help make it thru the tough times to come. Check with your cardiologist to make sure you aren't getting cardiac Hypertension.
That might be the reason for the tiredness. I'm not a doctor, but I have both of those problems myself.
Wow, you've had a time! I hope your doc is planning on doing a spirometry test of full Pulmonary Function Test. If, not, ask about them. I would agree that your history certainly makes it sound like COPD, but you need a definitive diagnosis, and x-rays and a history of pneumonia are definitely indicative, they aren't definitive. All your other symptoms need to be taken into account as well. They could also be from COPD, but there are lots of other things that could be causing them as well, so you need to have things ruled out so you know what you're really dealing with. So:ask for:
spirometry or pulmonary function test
Alpha-1 Antitrypsin Deficiency blood screen
Sleep test (headaches, night sweats and fatigue could all be sleep apnea)
Less expensive alternative to Asmanex (talk turkey about your financial realities)
Make sure you talk about the weight loss
Ask for his plan of treatment going forward, including all the tests he's going to order so you know what's going to be done and when. Talk about what you do to help you manage symptoms in the meantime.
That'll get you started.
Have you not had a Cscan yet. I mean you could also, have asthma with the copd. It sure sounds like it and that will need to be treated. X rays will not show that.
I ONLY WISH I WAS LOSING WEIGHT. LMAO SERIOUSLY IM STARTING TO DIET and add exercise so finally weight is coming down. trying to lose 2-3 lbs a week as my goal so far its working.
No c scan yet, and yes I've had asthma for a very long time, since child hood, been on the meds for asthma as long as can remember lol. Dr believes I now have copd.
