Go buy yourself some balloons and blow them up when you're having trouble. You'll be amazed how much that helps. I also bought some bubbles to blow and now sit on my deck and act like a kid. I take my inhalers before I go to bed.

Hi in the UK we are told your Ventolin inhaler takes up to 3 minuets to open up your airways and you can have up to 10 puffs at a time in an emergency as you are describing. My respiratory team have me using my ventolin @ 2puffs 4 times a day and as required if a need it in an emergency.

when you use Ventolin too often it will cause you to cough a lot,so be careful here.. I only use it as part of my day for med. Other than that you use it when you have trouble breathing..Breathe easy
