Is There Any Extra Help For People With Copd?

My husband found out last july he has copd. Doctors told him 7 years ago he had emphasema (excuse my spellings) he has a inhaler, & a few other tablets to take but they dont seem to work and his gp seems to fob him off (i feel its because he still smokes) but is there a copd nurse or someone that could advice us with further treatments?

smoking is a very difficult addiction they compare it to heroin, I am still smoking and I have decreased dramatically I need to stop asap I can still breath I know it is because of my inhalers, I am struggling, sorry to hear you say your husbands GP rubs him the wrong way, not sure if this is what your meant to say, where I live there are smoking cessation help here they provide free nicotine replacement (patches, gum, inhalers) also maybe your husband may want to consider going to a therapist, idk if that is his thing. I wish you all the best and I admire your love and support you are providing for him

Hi x I'm afraid to say he HAS to stop smoking x it IS killing him x I was told 10 years ago to stop smoking and I didn't x now I've been told (Jan) that I need a transplant x no way that they would consider putting me on waiting list cos I WAS still smoking x I stopped 39 days ago x I need to be stopped for at least 6mnth x I totally understand why but I don't know if my lungs will hold out til then 🙊😔x I'll just have to wait and hope x please tell your husband about me x I have copd and emphasemia too x I'm only 47yrsbyoung x if this is not enough for him to stop let me know x as I have another horror story to tell (my trip to hospital in Feb) which will scare the beejeezus out of anyone that stills smokes x I've found that they will help you if you're willing to help yourself x you can get help from ots through your doctor x good luck for you both x please let us know how yous get on ❤x

Quitting smoking is the first step. If he doesn't quit, things will continue to get worse, very slowly. Death by cigarettes can take a very long time, and none of it is pleasant. Then he needs a pulmonologist who can help him understand his disease and develop a treatment plan. One of the things he needs to do is get a referral to Pulmonary Rehab, though lots of PR programs won't take people who are still smoking. So work on quitting first.

My hubby is still smoking, I did quit 2.5 yrs now , maybe he needs to hear 👂 the rest of the story? I've saved over 12000$ now isn't that great? The bonus of quitting is l can breath again now , its up to me to get back in shape , go to the gym An slowly work at getting stronger, I'm a little lazybones at working out ,but I love yoga ,witch I can google any time Also if I get bored I can just pick another utube! Kneed to remember to breath deep! Have a super Monday every one an hugs.
