While the most common cause is smoking, about 25% of people diagnosed never smoked and many had no genetic or other exposure for it. Rochelle, why are you so sure you don't have it? And if you don't have it, what brought you here? Just curious; you're certainly welcome here, and I encourage you to learn as much as you can about COPD. I suggest you go to www.copdfoundation.org where you can find a treasure trove of information that will be very helpful. One of the most important things is that COPD develops over many years, regardless of the cause. It's not something you can catch; it's something that just develops.

C.O.P.D. is, so far, an incurable lung disease. The most common cause is smoking. If you work/live in an area where the air quality is poor you can contact it easier. If you have breathed in acid fumes. powdered substances etc. chemicals in your work career, then you are a candidate for C.O.P.D.. There are numerous other circumstances that allow you to contact this disease more easily. If you were to approach your disease control in your area, you could find out all you need to know about the disease.
