Copd And Type 1 Diabetic
I have type 1 diabetics and copd I'm finding it very very hard to control both as inhalers have steroids which affect my diabetes anyone any ideas how to manage both
Smithy! I BET you do! Now I have it with COPD, but basically caused by steroids, taking now. Checking it now, as I am sick and on steroids, but I lowered them! My Blood Sugar went to 266 and climbed the other day. In Hospital, they gave me Insulin as it was over 300! Now, at home, but blood sugar I NOW check, well, HIGH AS always! Between a ROCK and a HARD PLACE, right?!
For most of us with diabetes, the steroids in the inhalers don't affect blood sugar levels; that's not to say that it doesn't affect yours, but there could be other things going on as well. I keep both my diabetes and my COPD under good control with diet and exercise. So my suggestion is to talk with your doc about an exercise program and get started and pay closer attention to your diet and what you eat. A good exercise program will help you control both.
