Riskymisty, people who are on the list for TX are people who have been told they would be dead in two years or less; they aren't the healthiest folks on the planet. While it's certainly true that there are things that keep you from having a TX, anesthesia isn't one of them. A good anesthesiologist can get you through most surgeries, so you didn't talk to one who has had good experience with folks who are at risk. Find one who works with people with lung issues and I think you'll find that they would answer you differently.

Yes, I had my first appt, at the transplant hospital, I am a very good candidate. I have to give up my nicotine gum for at least 6 mos. At this time I am in the process of moving, my insurance has changed and I don't think I have the number of caregivers they require…
Before when I had the appt., I lived 4 1/2 hrs from the hospital. Atleast now I'm only 1 hour away so I may reconsider my options. I do have a friend who had a double 3 years ago and an acquaintance who just had one in March. Other than my lungs and Osteoporosis everything else is fine including weight.

My FEV score was 14%f. After many tests, I was put on the list. I had a double lung transplant 6 months ago. I feel great and can breath again. Its certainly not the most pleasant thing to go through but would I do it again? Absolutely............I have a future again. Once again, I was in pretty good health except for the COPD. I'm 64. Any questions, message me. Good luck.

Kelsey, the chances of you're living long enough to be sick enough for a TX is practically nil, assuming that you're being active, exercising regularly and taking your meds regularly. I'm in a similar situation, even though my FEV1 is in the mid 30s; the chances of my getting sick enough to even consider being listed are slim to none.

I also feel leave transplants for people with younger families or will benefit more from it. At 66 and 53% lung capacity with physio walking swimming and a fantastic family I will keep going my way. Breathe easy all.😊
