Has Anyone Had Unexplained Bruising With COPD?

A MyCOPDTeam Member asked a question 💭
Greenbelt, MD

My wife is the one with COPD, and she has a large dark bruise on her left arm. She doesn't remember bumping into anything, and with the size of this bruise, I think she would remember it if she had.

Bruising such as you describe is a common side effect of both aging and genetics, sometimes compounded by the inhaled or oral corticosteroids we take. I've been on Advair for 14 years, and both my parents experienced this bruising as they aged, so I come by it honestly, genes, age and the inhaled steroids. I try to be extra careful to avoid scraping, particularly of my hands and forearms, as they are most susceptible to this bruising. I find that mine don't hurt unless I scrape hard enough to break the skin.

As we get older skin gets thinner. Medications like prednisone and blood thinners also cause bruising.
