Does Anyone Else Suffer With A Hoarse Voice
i have just started to suffer with a hoarse voice
@A MyCOPDTeam Member I had the same issue for a long time and I use symbicort at 2 shots in the morning and 2 in the evening. I went to see an ENT Dr 2 weeks ago and he said some powder will attach itself to the vocal cords below where gargling can reach and he told me when I have rinsed good to then swallow a couple of sips of water and flush the residue into my stomach and let my system get rid of it. It seems to work for me, hope it will work for you.
Try using a spacer on your inhalers. Worked for me.
I had a problem with a hoarse voice and then it graduated to no voice at all, most frustrating thing. My Lung Specialist said it's caused by the steroids. In my case even though I rinsed and gargled after every use it somehow got into my vocal chords. He changed the dosage of the inhaler and put me on Nystatin- I tsp. 4 times a day and I got my voice back.
A number of the inhaled medications do have the effect of producing a hoarse voice. It's one of those side effects that we balance when we decide to take any med. Breathing or being hoarse? I'll take breathing any day! That said, you might talk with your doc and do a little experimenting with other meds. You might have better luck with something else in the same class of med. Of course, there are also the problems of which meds your insurance covers, cost, etc.
Are you using Advair, Spiriva, or any similar inhaler? If you are, rinse and gargle well then swallow a few sips of water to wash the powder build up on your vocal cords the the rinsing and gargling won't reach down and processed out through the stomach. If that's not the problem, you'll need to post more information what meds etc you are on before anyone can offer possibilities.
