Does Anyone Know If Hydrocodone Help With COPD Issues.

I have long known that 10mg of hydrocodone taken a half hour before getting out greatly enhance my breathing and therefore my mobility. If it is to be an especially active day (for me) I might take 20mg. Once in the morning can last 12-16 hours. Taken too late might interfere with sleep. The euphoria is not too shabby a bonus. But I only do it when I need the extra help. I sometimes take 10mg when taking a sit-down shower as it also enhances my flexibility.

On the other hand one does not want to take it too often. There may come a day when it may be required for pain and all opiates follow the law of diminishing returns. From my experience, taken for pain there is little or no euphoria or enhanced well-being. When taken more than once or twice a week there is less and less advantage. Too much of a good thing.

When I queried my pulmonologist on the subject all I got was and ambivalent "Duh?". I have signed on to this site in an effort to find if there is any medical research or scholarship on the subject of hydrocodone and COPD.

It helps me with chest pains every day. I try not to take it as much as I can. Morphine sulfate works to help you breathe. Hydromorphone really helps you breathe, but usually you can't get it outside of a hospital setting.

Hello,
I am on hydrocodone 10-325 twice a day as well as morphine sulfate for 12 years for chest pains. Really helps me out, I try not to take them every day, but lately when major weather changes occour it can be more painful. I take vitamin C 1000 mg twice a day and it really helps you overcome any adverse reactions to the pain meds as well. Cuts down on mucas as well along with NAC 600mg. On pregnisone 5 mg for 12 years too, no side effects and I'm doing very well. Since started taking high dose vitamin C 5 years ago have not had any exaserbations. I was having many before supplementing. More clinical studies must be done, Linus Pauling was really on to something. Sambucol chewable tablets have made such a large difference in my breathlessness it truly is a miraculous substance. I believe in nutraceuticals, take too many to list here, really been good for me.
To your better Health,

Guys. while I agree my COPD Dr does not prescribe it he can not dispute the benefits I get from it. I take the pain med for back trouble, and found it was helping my COPD very well. Relaxes the bronchial tubes and Ken breathes much much easier.

Don't get me wrong, I do not take it daily, but if I am going out to compete in a sports match, I will take one before the match. That way back and breath benefit and I have a good day.

May cause is a huge word, just like it may not. Or just being a little pregnant. LOL

Be well !
